Mathew, “Huck” to his friends, is a full-time, professional, certified and registered yoga teacher based in Ithaca, NY. He is well known for his down to earth classes and workshops. He mixes a solid workout with practical yoga philosophy and a wild sense of humor.

Huck teaches workshops and promotes yoga events throughout New York State. He is also the founder, and director of the Finger Lakes Yoga Festival, and was recently featured in an article for Examiner.

In 1996, at 18 years old, Mathew began his path. After studying Buddhism and meditation throughout high school, he decided to leave the east coast, and travel the country with only his backpack. Then, after his travels, he took retreat in the mountains of New Mexico in a secluded old adobe, with no running water and no electric, where he stayed there for two years.

In 1999 he moved to Santa Fe, eager to make a change in the world. That winter, he was injured in a skiing accident, which left him with some back issues, and blessed him with yoga. Months after the accident, he was gifted with a book on yoga, and a free yoga lesson from a friend. The relief was profound, and yoga asana became part of his meditation practice.

In 2000 he moved back to his hometown in New York, studied Environmental Science at SUNY, and spent the next 6 years working and volunteering for non-profit organizations. He continued his studies of yoga philosophy, asana, and meditation. Ultimately, he decided the best thing he could do for the world was to pay forward what he had learned, and teach yoga.

In 2009 Mathew was Registered by the Yoga Alliance as a RYT-200, after completing a ten month study of classical yoga, under Lauren Toolin at Heart Space Holistic, in Albany, NY. He has also had the honor to participate in workshops with great teachers like Rod Stryker, Ed Dailey, and Edwin Bryant.

Mathew is also certified level one by the SomaVeda Institute for Thai Yoga Therapy, and is a registered practitioner with the International Thai Therapists Association (ITTA).

Mathew’s teachings follow the guidance given by the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and the Bhagavad Gita. His classes are further influenced by Ashtanga, Iyengar, Viniyoga, Parayoga, and Power yoga.
