Zainab-Fun

Here’s the official 411 on Zainab:

Zainab has been teaching yoga since 2007, and she currently teaches all levels of Vinyasa Flow in and around Ithaca, NY. Her classes draw from several styles of practice including Prana Flow, Ashtanga, Power Yoga & Viniyoga, and they integrate attention to anatomy, alignment and movement. She enjoys the mindfulness, physical awareness and playful grace one can find in yoga and strives to incorporate these elements in her classes. She has happily trained with and is eternally grateful to New York-based teachers Charles and Lisa Bennett Matkin, Prana Flow founder Shiva Rea and several Prana Flow senior trainers. Zainab is an E-RYT 200 certified instructor and is currently pursuing the 300-hour level certification in Prana Flow.  When she is not on a yoga mat, Zainab also spends her time as a freelance writer.  Her writings have been published in DoYouYoga.com, Fit Yoga, Women’s eNews, Zink, & Living MySore online magazine.

We asked Zainab:

Why do you practice yoga?  This was the first movement practice that challenged me to be present, and, I’m not going to lie. . .it also appeals to my secret wish to be a ninja!  However over time, not only did this practice fulfill my desire to move with grace and power, but it also became a way for me to make sense of my life and the world.

What fuels you? Love, smiles & hugs, holding my partner’s hand, family & friendships, snuggling with my dog, sunshine, lakes & oceans, flowers, breath, crow & handstands or cartwheels (depends on the day), movement & dancing, fireworks, a delicious glass of wine, peanut butter cookies, cake frosting (buttercream, please), coconut smoothies, watching TV or reading curled under a blanket, & lastly, MORE LOVE!

What can people expect in your Mighty classes?  Come with a sense of adventure, and you’ll enjoy fluid, creative and energizing movements that remind you that you are capable of most anything!  We’ll cultivate an engaged breath, whether it’s through specific pranayama or just simple attention to the breath.  I thread in simple meditation practices to help nurture a fully balanced experience —from body to mind to heart—on your mat.  And I will likely throw in a few quirky (read: hilarious, not always logical!) jokes and stories from my personal experiences, all with the intention to make it easier to laugh and illuminate life’s many intriguing lessons.

Zainab’s favorite piece of wisdom:

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.  As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
