Mighty Yogi of the Month: April 2017
Hi, I'm Laurie and This Is How I Kick Asana!
Name: Laurie Cuomo
Favorite yoga pose: Humble Warrior - Buddha Virabhadrasana
Yoga is… an activity that calms me, challenges me, helps me with personal growth AND I get to practice with my daughter!
How do you serve the world? Everyday I get the opportunity to promote healthy lifestyle and community through my job at the YMCA.
What do you love most about your yoga practice? I love that every time I take a class I learn or feel something new and walk away feeling fresh!
My NON-guilty pleasure is… hiking in the woods
What makes you Mighty? Persistence
You rocked this year's February Challenge! How was the experience for you? I loved the challenge - to my surprise I was a bit worn out physically by the end of the month.
What’s your yoga story? How did you start practicing? I started practicing 2 months before Total Hip Replacement Surgery in Sept, because I thought it would be good for my mind and body to be strong going into the surgery. I felt very welcomed into the classroom even though there were many moves that I could do not do well. Post surgery, I took 5 weeks off for recovery. I rejoined in Mighty in January and was able to practice almost everyday making modifications. Practicing at Mighty has been an amazing place for me to build confidence in my movements and to step by step gain strength. I thank all the instructors for such great thought out classes and Liz & Sarah for additional support and encouragement!
If you had a superpower what would it be? TO FLY!
When I wake up in the morning, I always do these two things... have a great cup of coffee and I always give my dogs a hug.
What's the best advice you've ever received? "Step outside your comfort zone"
