My first yoga class was a prenatal class when I was pregnant with my first child almost 30 years ago. My then-husband and I owned a store next to a well-respected birth center that offered prenatal yoga. I wanted to do something special and mindful for the pregnancy, and I ended up taking that series with each of my three pregnancies. After the children were born, my regular practice began as something to do for myself, “Me Time”.
I practiced regularly 3x a week throughout the decades of life. Divorce, raising children, teenagers, job changes, moving, remarriage. Yoga was a steady rhythm even when life was shifting. I have practiced many different styles, and visited many new studios in many different cities. For me, it is about getting on the mat.
Eventually, I realized I wanted to delve deeper into my practice, which led me to take trainings. I began with prenatal training, and eventually completed my 200 hour and 500 hour training with Pranakriya yoga – derived from Kripalu yoga with an emphasis on pranayama, meditation and yogic philosophy. I went on to complete my certificate in Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga with David Emerson at the Trauma Center in Brookline.
Today, in addition to my teaching at Mighty, the most fulfilling aspect of my yoga practice is my work with veterans as a yoga therapist at the VA hospital in White River Junction specializing in yoga therapy for PTSD.
