Having a strong background in dance and physical fitness, yoga peaked my curiosity; hearing it was “more than” a typical workout. Back in 2000, yoga in the United States was limited and certainly not a main steam fitness option. My notion of yoga was bald, bearded men in white robes chanting... And then, a bald, bearded man changed my life.
Total body engagement, fluid in movement, bathed in peaceful bliss is how I would describe my first yoga class, and it’s been my passion ever since.
Today the initial draws of yoga are still there, but at a much deeper and comprehensive engagement. I’ve traveled the world seeking the wisdom of gurus in how to live my yoga and know I will for the rest of my life. I most certainly love the physical benefits of my asana practice, but it’s the off mat practice of yoga that continues to enhance my life and my understanding of being a piece of the universe.
The opportunity to share my small amount of experience in this ancient practice with others is a magnificent gift. It is also a responsibility to live a yogic life to the best (not perfect) of my ability (constant vigilance) to walk the talk.
