While I remember doing a yoga class from a VHS tape with my mom as a kid, I started regularly going to a yoga class during college when I wanted to carve time out of a busy schedule for just myself. I spent my whole week looking forward to my Thursday dates with myself on my yoga mat. Not only did it allow me to do something for myself, but it helped to settle my mind as the week wound down. As I’ve grown, my yoga continues to be about time for myself, but has also given me the sense of belonging. In a studio or on my mat is a place where I fit. I often find myself mid-sweaty yoga class in awe at the idea of sharing my energy and experience with people who are like me.
Teaching yoga was always an idea in the back of my mind of something that would be fun to do. I was also originally intrigued by the poses that needed a significant amount of strength and aspired to accomplish them (this is forever a work in progress!) But as my own practice brought me more peace, I decided to finally take the next step of actually doing the training because I wanted to be a part of creating the community I so appreciated.
My hope is to guide students through the movements and breathwork but also provide a sanctuary for connection and self-reflection.
