Mighty Yogi of the Month: June 2015
Hi, I’m Leslie and This Is How I Kick Asana!
Name: Leslie Miller
Occupation: Licensed Massage Therapist
Favorite yoga pose: Half Moon
Yoga is… blissfully challenging.
What do you love most about yoga? The rush I feel after practice, like I’m a new person ready to take on the world, and knowing that there are infinite ways to modify my practice depending on what my body needs on a particular day.
What fuels you? Knowing that I have amazing friends and family who fill my life with positivity and love…and FUN!
My NON-guilty pleasure is… getting on all fours and wrestling with my silly dogs (and cat who thinks he’s a dog).
What makes you Mighty? My willingness to continue attempting the things that I have yet to conquer. (In life and in my yoga practice!)
What’s your yoga story? How did you start practicing? I was searching for something active that would keep me interested, and that I would actually enjoy and stick to doing. I had tried running (not my cup of tea), and had joined several gyms over the years only to dread going. I had never tried yoga before and when Mighty first opened I checked out a class with a friend and I kept on coming! I didn’t feel the intimidation or the judgement that a lot of gyms had made me feel, and yoga felt like something I could see myself committing to, and doing for the rest of my life to better my body and my mind.
When I wake up in the morning, I always do these two things… Get licked in the face by a dog (or two), and drink coffee.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? My Grandfather always loved the saying “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” Throughout my childhood I heard this from him often, and I think it’s a pretty great way to look at life when challenging times arise. I’m always trying to remind myself to pause, take a breath, and make the best out of what’s in front of me.
